# Fieldwork Labs > Fieldwork Labs builds rugged, offline-first software for ecologists and environmental scientists - turning fieldwork into clean, trustworthy data. Based in Perth, Western Australia. Fieldwork Labs is a niche software studio founded in 2024 by Chid Gilovitz, a botanist and plant biologist who spent more than a decade in Western Australian research, government, and consultancy before moving into software engineering. The company merges ecology and technology so researchers, conservationists, and land managers can spend less time wrestling with data and more time doing science. What we build: offline-first, geospatial data-collection apps (mobile and web); AI-powered research tools (image classification, species distribution, anomaly detection); and interactive analytics and decision dashboards. We favour simplicity, open standards, portable data, and long-term resilience. ## Pages - [Home](https://fieldworklabs.xyz/): Overview and what we build - [About](https://fieldworklabs.xyz/about): Company background, founder, and approach - [Projects](https://fieldworklabs.xyz/projects): Selected work and case studies - [Contact](https://fieldworklabs.xyz/contact): Book a call, contact details, and newsletter ## Products and projects - Fieldbook: A feature-rich data collection and management platform for ecological fieldwork - a web app for project and data management plus a mobile app for offline field collection, aimed at botany and zoology consultants. In private beta; public release in 2026. https://fieldbook.xyz - Fieldbook Community Edition: A simple offline mobile app for community members, landcare groups, and naturalists. Used by Nature Conservation Margaret River Region for woody-weed surveys, with 11,000+ records collected by 50+ community members. - Seed Scout: Web and mobile apps for the native seed industry, built in partnership with the Native Seed Technology Innovation Hub at Curtin University - offline field collection plus inventory, collection tracking, and seed-quality records. Currently in field testing with seed collectors in the Kimberley. - Seed Information Database (SID): The world's largest repository of seed-trait and germination data, built with the Society for Ecological Restoration. Originally developed by Kew; Fieldwork Labs built the modern frontend and data-upload features. https://ser-sid.org ## Tools - [Helitracks](https://fieldworklabs.xyz/tools/helitracks): A free, browser-based tool that cleans GPX tracks by removing fast (helicopter) travel sections from ecological survey data. All processing happens in the browser - data never leaves the device. ## Contact - Email: chid@fieldworklabs.xyz - Book a call: https://cal.com/chidg - GitHub: https://github.com/Fieldwork-Labs - YouTube: https://youtube.com/@fieldwork-labs - Twitter: https://x.com/@chidakash
